What We Believe

RiverCross Fellowship is a community of faith where together, we LOVE and LEARN to LIVE like Jesus. We welcome anyone to join us on this journey, to attend, explore, and participate, as we take steps of faith, growing closer to Christ together. We recognize that doubts and questions about faith are a normal part of spiritual growth, and we do not claim to have all the answers. We do believe, however, that all the answers can be found in the person of Jesus.

As a community of followers of Jesus Christ, here’s what we believe:

About the Bible: The Holy Spirit inspired human authors to write the books of the Bible. God Himself chose every word of Scripture and has revealed the truth about Himself in the scriptures of the Old and New Testament. The Bible is God’s love letter to all of humanity and is the final authority in every issue on which it speaks. It is complete Truth, and we can trust it for all matters in this life and eternity.  (Matthew 4:4; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

About God: Scripture teaches that God created everything we can see (and even everything we can’t see) out of nothing. Although it might be difficult for the human mind to comprehend, the Bible teaches that He is one, yet has existed since the beginning of time as three distinct and equal persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. He is a being of unimaginably wonderful power, goodness, and love. (Genesis 1:1; Psalm 24:1-2; Psalm 118:1; Psalm 145:1-9; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

About Jesus: Jesus Christ is God’s Son and an equal of the Father. He has existed from the beginning of time, yet lived on earth during the first century A.D. Throughout His earthly life, He was completely God and completely human at the same time. After living a perfect, sinless life, Jesus offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for every human being who has ever lived by dying on a Roman cross. After three days in the grave, He defeated sin and death by rising from the grave, and forty days later, He ascended to heaven. Jesus is our master and teacher, savior and friend, and now reigns forever with the Father and the Holy Spirit. (John 14:6-7; Acts 2:32; 1 Corinthians. 15:3-4; Ephesians 2:13; Colossians 1:15-20; Philippians 2:5-11; 1 Timothy 2:5-6)

About the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit is also an equal of the Father, the third person of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He works in the world to make all people understand their need for Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit lives inside every follower of Jesus from the moment they decide to follow Him. He is available now so we can be closer to God than the air we breathe. The Spirit is our power source for life, ministry and spiritual growth. To tap into that power, we must continually yield to the Holy Spirit. (John 14:26; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:26; Galatians 3:14; Ephesians 1:13-14; 1 Corinthians 6:19)

About Humanity: We believe all human beings have dignity because they were created by God in His own image, and great worth because they are valued by God beyond our ability to measure. We believe this world has pain and suffering because human beings have an attitude of rebellion toward God, have fallen and sinned by disobeying God, and so are separated and estranged from God, from each other, and even from ourselves. (Genesis 1:27, 31, Genesis 3:17; Psalm 8:3-6; Romans 3:23, Romans 5:8; Colossians 1:21; Titus 3:3)

About Salvation: Our disobedient nature has eternally separated us from our Creator. No matter how hard we try, we can never earn our way back into God’s presence. Jesus has made it possible for us to live in a loving relationship with God by His death on the cross. God graciously offers us salvation through faith in Jesus. Our only hope is to trust Jesus as God’s provision for our disobedience. Whenever you make that decision, you step into the eternal and abundant life Jesus promises for all believers. (John 3:16; John 10:9-10; Acts 4:12; Romans 10:9; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 John 5:11-12)

About the Church: The Bible tells us that the church is the body of Christ: the physical presence of Jesus in the world today. We believe the Church is the community through which God wants to bring love, healing, hope, help, and growth to the human race, and which He invites everyone who is willing to follow Jesus to join. (Matthew 28:18-20; John 1:12-13; Acts 1:8; Galatians 3:28; 1 Peter 2:9)
